093: R is for Rest [ABC’s of EYB]

While most of our topics in the ABC’s series have to do with taking some kind of action, today’s is a little different.

Today, we’re going to talk about Rest. In one way, rest is one of those largely overlooked aspects to engineering your business because on the surface it doesn’t seem to do anything.

But on the contrary, without rest, anything tends to wear out. If you have machines in your company, if you run them 24/7 they will eventually break down. They need to be taken down at some point and maybe have some preventive maintenance done on them so that they’ll do what you need when you need them.

The same is true for us and our people. We can’t just run hard all the time and push push push. We will wear out and end up in a bad spot.

We need to rest. And we need to encourage and provide opportunities for our teams to rest as well.

This could be anything from getting enough sleep to taking daily time to do something you love to taking a nap to creating margin in your schedule to eliminating items from your week. One way or another we need to create space to let our bodies and minds rest and recharge.

So, with that in mind, I’m going to give you a little something in this episode. I’m going to give you a few minutes to just relax and rest your mind and take yourself away from whatever is weighing on you or waiting for you.

In a moment, I’ll finish talking and I’ll fade the music out and there will be silence for another several minutes. If you’re up for the challenge, keep the episode playing and just let it yourself rest until you hear me pipe in at the end.

We all need some moments during the day to just stop, let the world slow down and breathe.

So, today, let these next few minutes be yours to do just that. I’ll be back in a few minutes.

I hope you took the challenge and let yourself breathe and rest. Thanks for listening today.

030: How Do You Find Rest?

030: How Do You Find Rest?

How do you rest?

In the midst of all that you’re dealing with, all that’s on your plate, all the responsibility, conflict, stresses, deadlines and frustrations… how do you recharge and renew?

Or, maybe a better question is “do you?”

Is it a priority for you?

If it’s not, maybe it needs to become one before you burn out.

No doubt, you probably ask a lot of yourself and you’re usually able to just push through, make things happen and not worry about resting.

I know I’ve been there. And I also know that it almost always catches up to me.

Maybe in the form of foggier thinking or a quicker temper. Tougher time making a decision or loss of focus.

Bottom line is that we were created to need rest.

It’s a natural part of how our bodies work.

This could mean sleep itself or just unplugging, doing something you love, getting energized.

There are a lot of ways you can get recharged. But they don’t just happen by accident.

Are you willing to be intentional and carve out time in your day or week to rest and recharge?

You’ll see so many benefits, personally and in your role in your business.
